THIS May Day bank holiday will see the most drivers on the roads since 2016.
The RAC reckons drivers are set to take an estimated 16.8m separate leisure trips.

Bank holiday Monday will be busiest with the largest number of individual leisure journeys (3.3m) followed by tomorrow (Saturday) with 3m and Sunday with 2.6m.
Drivers are planning on taking an additional 5.6m trips at some point between today and Monday – although 2.3m of these will only be taken if the weather is good.
Soaring fuel prices will have a bigger affect on peoples’ plans than at during the Easter bank holiday.
Some 14% of drivers saying they’re not planning a leisure trip this weekend specifically for this reason.

This is more than twice the proportion of drivers who didn’t drive over Easter for the same reason – 6%.
The RAC is encouraging drivers to check over their vehicles ahead of any trip, especially if they are planning to drive any great distance.
It asks drivers to have a quick look at oil and coolant levels and make sure that tyres are in good condition and are inflated to the correct pressures.
But there are simple things you can do to avoid getting stuck in a jam in the first place.

These include planning your route before you head and leaving plenty of time for your journey. Heading out as early as possible is a good idea too.
If you can’t leave early, taking smaller, less-busy roads is the best bet, even if the route ends up being slightly longer in distance.
There are also some superb navigation apps available for free on your smartphone that are better than the vast majority of in-built car sat-navs.
Google Maps and Waze both have extremely up-to-date data from people driving in real time to help your route update on the go and avoid you getting stuck.
